Research: Typography

Typography

What is typography?

Typography is how writing is presented or being portrayed, giving different messages towards the audience. Size and font is considered to give different types of messages for example;

This typography is taken from the well known thriller movie 'Seven' in which the title is shown to be in capitals and uses the number 7 in the middle which connotes that '7' is significant in the film. This typography is capital and bold which is simple and clear for the audience to see.

As we can see the typography from the famous
 thriller film 'Sinister' appears to be in capitals,
spaced out, short and sharp. The use of red connotes
 blood, danger, death etc. which allows the audience to
 clearly identify this movie as a thriller. This then allow
s the audience to anticipate the type of actions that will
be shown throughout the film.

Analysis of choices I may consider:
I will consider to use these types of typography as they are basic and simple but also create a big effect on the audience by the letters being capital and bold. I will also consider the type of design to give the audience an idea of what thriller genre it is. Colour will also be considered as different colours connote many different things towards the viewers such as red connotes blood, danger, death etc.

Conclusion:

In my thriller i will consider to use this type of typography because its main effect on the audience is that it makes them think of the text as unusual and creepy. The size of letters in the word 'Hello' starts from small to big which is unusual as a word normally has a capital in the first letter or all the letters in the word are the same size.

  1. Good comments in terms of Thrillers and nice conclusion thinking about what you want to do in your own work.

    To improve; could you talk earlier on about other styles of typography rather than just thrillers and then explain how/why/what they mean and connote...
